If you've heard both names and wondered if they're the same game — they're nearly identical, but with important rule variations. Either way, the family is famous for one thing: it's the fastest card game ever invented.
Spit is generally faster because there's no delay from drawing replacement cards. Speed has more strategic depth because the 5-card hand limit forces you to think about which cards to hold. Both games reward reflexes, peripheral vision, and the ability to see match combinations instantly.
No turns. Both players play simultaneously. There's no "your turn, my turn" — you slam cards onto the center piles as fast as your reflexes allow.
No waiting. In most card games, you wait while opponents think. In Speed, waiting means losing. Every millisecond you hesitate is a millisecond your opponent uses to play their card.
It even destroys decks. Speed has earned a reputation for ruining physical cards. Bent corners from aggressive play are common, which is partly why many players prefer the digital version — phones and computers don't get damaged by frantic play.
